Connecting a ViewSonic VG1655 external monitor to a Macbook Pro laptop or a Huawei Matebook D15 laptop (Windows 10 Professsional 64-bit)

ViewSonic VG1655 is a great and affordable monitor to be used as an extra display for our laptop. It comes with four ports — two Type-C USB ports, one mini-HDMI port, and one audio headset port. Three types cables are provided out-of-the-box for connecting the monitor to a computer or laptop.

• Type-C to Type-C cable
• Type-C to Type-A cable
• mini-HDMI to HDMI cable

When we connect the monitor to a Macbook Pro laptop, we can use only one cable.

• Type-C to Type-C cable — attach one type-C head to the monitor and another type-c head to the laptop.
• There is no need for a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable

However, if we want to connect the monitor to a Huawei Matebook D15 laptop, we need to use two types of cables. One of the cables must be a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable.

• Method #01: Using a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable and a Type-C to Type-A cable

— Connect the mini-HDMI head to the monitor and the HDMI head to the laptop.

— Connect the type-C head to the monitor and the type-A head to the laptop.

• Method #02: Using a mini-HDMI to HDMI cable and a Type-C to Type-C cable

— Connect the mini-HDMI head to the monitor and the HDMI head to the laptop.

— Connect the type-C head to the monitor and the type-C head to the laptop.

Since Huawei Matebook D15 laptop has only one USB type-C port that is used for the power adapter, I prefer Method #01 to Method #02.
